Java - The Island
Cultivation of Coffee on JavaCoffee is cultivated throughout Indonesia and Java and is in particular one of the great names in the history of coffee. The first coffee bushes were brought to Indonesia in the middle of the 17th century (some experts say even earlier) by the Dutch, and the first harvest was sold in Amsterdam in 1712. But, in 1877, rust destroyed all the plantations and so Robusta plants were imported from Africa as a replacement for the old bushes. Today, Arabica Beans make up only 6 to 10 percent of the entire harvest and Indonesia is nowadays the main exporter of Robustas with 6.8 million bags per year. Mostly the coffee is produced on small plantations, which account for approximately 90 percent of total production. Java produces an aromatic coffee with little acid, which is mild and well-balanced by nature. It is a bit more acidic than Sumatra or Sulawesi coffee and also spicier in taste. The best plantations are Jambit, Blawan, Kayumas and Pankur. Mocca Java is a mixture of Java and Jemenitec Mocca. Document Actions |
